American Staffordshire Terrier Breed Information

American Staffordshire breed is a powerful and muscular dog. This breed is more of a show breed compared to its cousin American Pit Bull terrier, which was bred as a fighting dog but now categorized as different breed. The Staff can make a perfect companion dog.

Breed Weight: 57 - 67 lbs.
Breed Height: 16 - 19 inches.

Color(s): any solid color, but must not be more than 80 percent white.
Coat: short, stiff and shiny. Less preferred colors are tan, black, liver and more than 80 percent white.
Characteristics and temperaments: American Staffordshire terrier may be aggressive and have to be trained properly since puppies. Properly breeding has made this breed a good companion for children. Staff is protective to its master.
Care: The short coat make it easy to groom. Brush on a regular basis with a bristle brush as necessary.
Training and activity: The American Staffordshire terrier needs plenty of exercise to burn energy. It enjoys playing and running and must be involved in obedience training to make it a socialized dog. If you want to adopt a Staffordshire puppy, be sure you can satisfy its playfulness and exercise requirement. This breed also prefers warm climates.
