Basenji Breed Information

The Basenji breed is a hunting dog from Africa. It is small, short, unusual, elegant and graceful. What makes this breed so unique and unusual is that Basenji doesn't and shouldn't bark. This dog is quite most of the time but can vocalize the mood by growling, howling or yodeling.
AKC Breed Group: Hound.
Breed Weight: 22 - 24 lbs.
Breed Height: 16 - 17 inches.

Color(s): black, chesnut red, brindle, mix of black and chesnut red, all whie legs, blaze and collar optional.
Coat: Basenji has short-haired and fine coat.
Characteristics and temperaments: This breed is intelligent, affectionate, alert, but independent. It is not known for its obedience, although it can get along with strangers. This dog can be trusted with children, but not as a playmate.
Care: Basenji breed washes itself like a cat. Very little grooming is needed.
Training and activity: Basenji dog likes to chew so you should give a lot of chewing toy. It is acceptable as an apartment dog, although regular walk is necessary. The dog is difficult to train, although socialization is best done since younger age.
