Bluetick Coonhound Breed Information

The Bluetick Coonhound breed has strong instinct for hunting and excel in raccoon hunting. The dog is very intelligent and devoted to his family. He makes a great companion dog and can live indoors quite well.
AKC Breed Group: Not AKC recognized.
Breed Weight: 45 - 80 lbs.
Breed Height: 20 - 27 inches.

Color(s): tri-colored; speckled blue, consists of black hairs on white.
Coat: short; preferred in dark blue, but black is acceptable.
Characteristics and temperaments: Instinctive hunter makes it not suitable to be left alone with other non-canine pets, but he can get along quite well with children if socialized from a puppy. Bluetick Coonhound dog likes to follow his own nose so make sure not to let him off the leash in an unsafe area.
Care: Regular attention especially to ears to keep them clean. Moderate grooming is enough to maintain the coat.
Training and activity: Bluetick Coonhound learns quickly because of his intelligence. Although he is quite inactive indoors doesn't mean he can live in apartment. Frequent exercise is a must, at least a yard where the dog can play freely. This breed likes to mark his own territory so training is a must and takes some time.
