Dog Health: What You Should Know

Tagged:

After your family, nothing comes closer to your heart than your dog. I will rephrase. The dog is your family. That is better. It prevents some of you from writing me hate letters. :) If your canine pet is so important to you, then dog health is a topic you should know about.

Unlike human, dogs don't share the same characteristics as human being when it comes to their health. In order to know your canine pet better, you have to learn different dog's symptoms so that you recognize health problems earlier.

If you were asked if your dog is healthy and in its perfect shape, how would you respond?

Fido can't speak for himself. Unless you have at least the basic knowledge to recognize signs of illness, you can't answer above question.

That sounds easily said than done, right? No, I am not asking you to become the next veterinarian. Just by reading and learning a few articles, you know a lot of things better than other dog owners, especially related to your canine health.

You know how to react in case of emergency. Most important yet, your pet dog will live longer and have fun with you.

A short quiz follows. If you answer a sounding "Yes" to every question below, you don't need what we have to provide here:

  • Are you choosing the right diet for your dog, not based on what's the cheapest available on the pet or dog store? How can it affect pet health?
  • Do you know which dog nutritional food to choose? Walk down the aisle to get an idea about how much variety of choices you have.
  • Like human being, a dog requires CPR at times. Do you know how to do it?
  • Dogs should not consume chocolate. Do you know why?
  • Can you identify allergies in dogs?
  • Can you recognize some of the most common dog health symptoms?

You see, dog health is not as simple as you might think. You may have recognized some common disease such as rabies, distemper or parvo. But those are not the only diseases our dogs are vulnerable to.

Can you identify lime disease or canine kennel cough?

We don't recommend anyone to skip seeing a vet, but knowing your dog's health better often helps you and your dog disease before it is too late.

Having said that, those are just a few topics we are going to cover in this dog health section. Don't forget that this site has a dog health forum for every dog lovers to post and seek help.
