The English Setter breed is an active, gentle and friendly dog. He loves to be around people and excellent with children. Properly socialized early in life as a puppy, he can be very sensitive and mild mannered. If you like a companion dog, he can be a good choice.

AKC Breed Group: Sporting.

Breed Weight: 50 - 65 lbs.

Breed Height: 24 - 25 inches.

English Setter

Color(s): black and white, white and lemon, white and chesnut, white and orange. Tricolors and specklings are permissible.

Coat: Wavy, wooly and not too long.

Characteristics and temperaments: The English Setter gets along well with children, other household pets and dogs. As an enthusiastic breed, he is lively outdoors but remain inactive indoors. Willful at times, but makes a good watchdog.

Care: Regular combing and brushing is necessary to keep him in a good condition. This breed is an average shedder.

Training and activity: This breed can be difficult to housebreak, so it is necessary to involve him in training since early age. This dog is not recommended for apartment living because he likes to roam, jump and dig. The field types are very active and require more exercise than the show types.
