The Finnish Spitz breed is friendly, alert and good natured. His expression resembles te fox, with erect ears, curled tail and active both indoors and out. The dog has excellent reputation with children, although supervision is a must. Puppies born darker but get their reddish coat as they grow up.

AKC Breed Group: Non-sporting.

Breed Weight: 31 - 35 lbs.

Breed Height: 15 - 20 inches.

Finnish Spitz Breed

Color(s): red gold and shades of it; white patch on chest.

Coat: double-coated; undercoat is short, dense, and soft while outercoat is longer, straight and harsh. Females has less volume coat than males.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Finnish Spitz breed is brave, lively, friendly, playful and protective. He makes a good companion for the family and children, but reserved with strangers. This breed was originally bred for bird hunting. Sometimes he may chase smaller animals.

Care: Brushing and combing regulary is required to remove dead hair. The dog is seasonally heavy shedder.

Training and activity: This dog is intelligent. When trained properly, he will be submissive to his family and follow orders slavishly. Training requires much patience and consistency. The breed makes an excellent outdoor companion like jogging. After the puppy reaches one year old, he needs plenty of exercise to stay happy and healthy.
