The Irish Setter breed is a friendly, loyal, protective and loving dog. They are also active and elegant in nature. Having no guarding instinct, this breed gets along with other animals and makes a great companion for children. The dog is used in all types of hunting.

Breed Weight: 60 - 70 lbs.

Breed Height: 25 - 27 inches.

Color(s): mahogany or rich chestnut red; no black is permitted.

Coat: short, fine, long flat and a bit curly.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Irish Setter is lively, energetic, playful and intelligent. They have excellent sense of smell. This breed can pick bad habits quickly so proper training is required. This dog is also independent.

Care: Daily brushing and combing is required to keep the coat in excellent condition. Bathe only when necessary.

Training and activity: The dog needs a lot of exercise to stay healthy and happy. If you live in apartment, they are not suitable for you. It is best if you can provide enough room such as yard for the dog to freely move around. Daily long walk is recomended. Training should be consistent and firm, begin as early as possible.
