Irish Water Spaniel Breed Information

The Irish Water Spaniel breed is smart, strong and intelligent sporting dog. As the largest of the spaniels, they combine both strength and endurance. They also love people and makes a great watchdog. This breed should be socialized as a puppy and only suitable with considerate children.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Irish Water Spaniel is intelligent, loving family dogs and devoted. They are stubborn and independent, but have great capability to work and desire to please. If well-socialized as a puppy, this dog can make a good companion with other pets. They are aggressive to other dogs and reserved with strangers.
Care: The dog needs a lot of care in grooming because the coat tend to mat. Professional grooming is recommended and if necessary.
Training and activity: These dogs love the opportunity to go swimming and retrieving. At least give them regular long walks to satisfy their activity requirement. Training should be done as a puppy to introduce him to other household pets and children. The breed is independent, so consistent and firm handler is compulsory.
