The Maltese breed is a mild-mannered, eager, affectionate, and playful dog. They also get along well with other animals. It is best to have this breed in a house with no inconsiderate children though. The Maltese is fine-boned but sturdy.

Breed Weight: 4 - 7 lbs.

Breed Height: 9 - 10 inches.

Color(s): white, light tan or lemon is permissible.

Coat: single-coat without undercoat; flat, silky, and long.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Maltese breed can quickly become attached to the family but should not be over-pampered. They also are eager to learn and friendly to well-behaved visitors. The breed can be a picky eater at times.

Care: Daily combing and brushing is needed to handle the soft and long coat. Eyes and ears should be kept clean. Bathe and dry shampoo regularly.

Training and activity: This breed responds very well to encouragement because of their sensitivity. No harsh words are necessary. The dogs should be able to adapt to the activity level of their other family members but enjoy regular walk. They are also very active indoors.
