Pekingese Breed Information

The Pekingese breed is a well-balanced, compact, brave, courageous, affectionate and loving dog. The face is flat with wrinkled muzzle. They are very sensitive and quite independent at times. They can also show jealousy. This breed generally make a good watchdog as they bark a lot. The name was taken from an ancient city of Peking, now Beijing, in China.

Breed Weight: 8 - 10 lbs.

Breed Height: 6 - 9 inches.

Coat: long-haired, abundant, coarse, straight, with soft undercoat.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Pekingese breed is affectionate, but should not be leaved with children. If properly socialized since early age, they can get along pretty well with other animals. This breed also tend to gain weight if overfed, but also has the problem as being difficult to feed.

Care: Daily brushing and combing of the long coat is needed. Dry shampoo regularly.

Training and activity: These dogs are difficult to housebreak. They like the opportunity to walk regularly, although they usually can adapt to the activity level of the family. The dog should be accustom to the leash as a puppy. Positive reinforcement training is required as the dog may want to dominate and being independence.
