Pembroke Welsh Corgi Breed Information

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed is a strong, active, bold but kindly dog. They are also intelligent, obedient, hardy, and protective. They usually get along well with considerate children. Trying to dominate people and other dogs is natural in this breed, but proper socialization should address this. Both Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis were originated from Swedish Vallhunds but have been considered separate breeds for 70 years.

Breed Weight: 24 - 30 lbs.
Breed Height: 10 - 12 inches.

Color(s): red, sable, fawn, black and tan. White markings is permissible.
Coat: double-coated; the outercoat is longer and coarser. Undercoat is short, thick and weather-resistant.
Characteristics and temperaments: The Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed is hardy, intelligent but sometimes over-protective. They somtimes try to herd people by nipping at their heels. This breed makes a good alarm dog as it tends to bark a lot. Males can be aggressive with other males in different situation.
Care: The soft and weather-resistant coat is easy to groom. Regular brushing and combing is enough to keep it in good shape. Bathe only when necessary.
Training and activity: They are very active and should be allowed to stay this way. Proper training and socialization should take place since puppyhood to discourage over-protective behavior as an adult. They should be taught not to nip on heels too.
