Portuguese Water Dog Breed Information

The Portuguese Water Dog breed is a robust, spirited, loyal, alert, muscular and obedient in nature. The body is slightly longer than it is tall. They are affectionate and fun as a companion. Socialized properly, the dog will get along with cats, other dogs and pets. These dogs make good watchdogs.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Portuguese Water Dog is lively, intelligent, calm but come with great stamina. They can adapt to apartment living as long as you provide sufficient amount of exercise. They also are stable, fearless, keen to work and able to accept instructions well. This breed has good sense of humor.

Care: The coat should be brushed and combed regularly. Clipping is necessary when the coat is getting long.

Training and activity: Although the dog can live in an apartment, he is also an active dog with ample physical and mental exercise requirement. They love to swim and play retrieve. The dogs make perfect jogging companion, which are suitable for people with high level of activity. Eager to please and are sensitive to the voice of his trainer, training should be fun and easy.
