Saint Bernard Breed Information

The Saint Bernard breed is a strong, muscular, tall, very large dog with a powerful head. Despite their size, they are extremely gentle and friendly. They also get along very well to children due to their highly tolerance behavior. These dogs can live in apartment because they are quite inactive indoors but they should get enough exercises.

Saint Bernard Breed

Color(s): white with red, red or brindle with white. White markings are necessary on chest, tip of the tail, feet, noseband and collar. Dark mask is acceptable.

Coat: two types: long and short haired; very dense, smooth and rough to touch.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Saint Bernard breed is a gentle, friendly and tolerant dog. The size makes them move slowly. Socialization should be taken place since puppyhood. This breed makes a good watchdog. They also want to please their owners and are extremely loyal to their family.

Care: Both short and long-haired are easy to groom. Comb and brush regularly and bathe only when necessary.

Training and activity: A St. Bernard puppy should not be involved in a lot of exercise because he needs the energy to grow his bones and muscles. Adults should be given the opportunities to walk outdoors. It is best if you socialize this breed while he is still manageable in size. Being intelligent and willing to please, these dogs are easy to train.
