Schipperke Breed Information

The Schipperke breed is an active, agile, cobby, tail-less dog with thick double-coat. They are energetic and quick, not to be confused with the small body size. They are somewhat aloof to strangers, but actually devoted and loyal. They get along well with children, other dogs and cats.

AKC Breed Group: Non-sporting.

Breed Weight: 12 - 16 lbs.

Breed Height: 10 - 13 inches.

Color(s): solid black.

Coat: dense, abundant and long-haired on neck, shoulders, back of rear legs and chest.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Schipperke breed is hot-tempered, high-spirited, self-confident, protective, smart and curious dog. They are wary of strangers and immediately adopt a watchful position. This breed excel in defending its home against intruders. These dogs can be independent at times.

Care: This breed is very clean but combing and brushing is required to keep the coat in top condition.

Training and activity: These dogs are good for apartment life. They are quire inactive indoors. Training should be easy as these dogs are intelligent and eager to learn. This breed has the tendency to be willful at times though. Some can be difficult to housebreak. You can adapt the dog to city of country living. It is best if you have a fenced and secured yard for him to take the exercise of his own.
