Terrier Breeds

Terriers are also hunting dog breeds, but their game is generally vermin, not birds and other animals. Some terrier breeds can control rats, mice, foxes and other predatory animals that raided farmer's grains and chickens. The latter usually were developed in British Isles.

The Terriers have many different sizes, but usually fiery, scrappy but can be loyal if trained correctly. Especially with the wire-haired terriers, special grooming is needed. Dead hears must be pulled out of the coats to maintain texture and color.

These dogs can be hard to train at times and require consistent and strong will to successfully train them. Friendliness with children are common, but terriers also can be nippy with overactive and rowdy children.

If your families members have allergies, you should be better off with hard-coated dogs because they don't drop their dead hairs throughout the house. Impatient people should avoid wire-haired dogs in general because they tend to require more grooming.

Terrier breeds are considered more appropriate for older family members, although some of them can be good with children.

Good training can make this breed an excellent companion dog with a lot of fun activities because of the strength and playful behaviors.
