Whippet Breed Information

The Whippet breed is a medium-size, elegant, fast, powerful ad balance sighthound. They are lively, affectionate, intelligent, sweet and docile. This breed is the ultimate sprinter, which can accelerate to top speed and to twist and turn with matchless dexterity. Children who don't tease the dog will get along very well with them.

Breed Weight: 20 - 40 lbs.
Breed Height: 18 - 22 inches.

Color(s): beige, roan, blue, black, black and white, white with streaked or yellow patches.
Coat: Fine, dense, close, short and smooth.
Characteristics and temperaments: The Whippet breed is a clean and odor free dog. They are easy to care for and make good watchdogs. This breed may be reserved with strangers. These dogs get along with other dogs but will pursue and kill cats and other small animals unless proper socialization has taken place as puppies.
Care: The coat is easy to groom. Brush witha firm bristle brush and bathe only when necessary.
Training and activity: These dogs should be given regular opportunities to run freely off-leash as well as walking on leash. They should not be leaved in unsecured area because they tend to kill cats and other small animals. It is important to include much variety in the training. They are sensitive both mentally and physically so no rough training is necessary.
